The tools have no effect in the Courtyard. When the battle reaches the yard, the attackers can't use their tools. Therefore you can make things more difficult for an attacker with good wall tools. Again, you can completely zero-out ranged defense with good ranged attack tools, but no attack tools can zero-out a melee defense bonus. Here is how this works: If you set 80% melee defense and take out most of the melee attackers on one wall, the remaining force in your Courtyard will be largely ranged defenders, which will take out the remainder of the attacker's troops, mostly ranged. Ranged defenders are best against ranged attackers (check the ( i ) information button on the troops for their attack/defense strengths). Melee defenders are best against melee attackers. Don't hand your attacker the +30% yard bonus. Again, read Goodgame Empire Guide Most battles will be in the Courtyard. This is the REQUIRED offline setup in many (if not all) of the top 10 alliances. Never leave a castle or outpost with a completely naked castellan.īefore you log off, set your defense sliders to 100-0-0 or 0-0-100 and 80% melee/20% ranged. After you capture an outpost don't forget to change out the equipment. Use the Technicus to upgrade your best ranged commander equipment.īefore you capture an outpost, load up your capture castellan with equipment that will increase speed and reduce occupation time. This is why your defense should be heavy in melee and wall tools. You can zero-out an opponent's ranged defense with attack tools, but you can't do that with melee defense. Make your commanders heavy in ranged bonus. If you multiple that with 1.3 (winning left, center, right) and possibly count in better troop quality (Kingsguard, Traveling Knights, Demons, Horrors, etc.) they can beat over 2.5k normal troops. The attacker's 1000 attack troops fight as 1900 troops if he has both powers at +90%. The best attackers usually have good ranged attack power (+90% maximum, and the melee attack power is +90% max as well). This is a very important part of the battle math. Suggested reading from the Goodgame Empire Guide Use The Technicus to upgrade your best pieces. To forge a higher level item, you will need 6 lower level items. There are also one-time "Unique" pieces (red) you can win by participating in events (Thorn King, Nomads, Storm Island, etc.). Use your smithy to forge Ordinary equipment (gray) to Rare equipment (green), Rare to Epic (violet), and Epic to Legendary (gold). In addition to equipment to dress your commanders and castellans, you will also get resources, coin, and occasionally rubies. Where to get those great items? Well, that requires farming the non-player character (NPCs, that is Robber Baron, Barbarian, Desert, Cultist) towers and fortresses for the items. Arrow slits provide a 70% increase in defense of ranged soldiers (but not melee). Portcullis provides 75% increase in gate protection. Armorer tools to get: Machicolation ("machicos"), provide a 50% increase in wall protection. Stack the tools at least 6 deep on all sides (don't forget good moat tools if you have a moat). Replace and combine lesser quality equipment with your smithy as you earn better pieces. Use The Technicus to upgrade your best melee castellan equipment. Make your castellans heavy in melee bonus and use the best wall tools you have. Better gate defense is even more useless because usually you should not defend the gate. It makes no difference to have +20% to wall defense when attacker's tools take -200% from the wall defense. Because of this your castle castellan equipment should be aimed for getting more power to units (+XX% to ranged and melee defense). The main part of the battle is at the Keep where tools and tower defenses are not counting at all. In big battles, the battle at the walls is only small part of the fight (under 1/5).
